When the Troll speaks to you

I know you have probably heard this and think?!?  But my Troll Santa asked for Bunny Warmers.  And I have learned over the years not to fight those requests.  So I got out my sketchpad and then put on my thinking cap.  How could I do this with out making parts that you have to sew on.

I also know that just cause you can envision something in your head, doesn't always mean it comes out that way in cloth.  So here's my idea.

It took some finagling, but I like it.  Yesterday I spent the day making Bunny warmers and absolutely love how they turned out.  It's a lot of hand stitching and fiddly work.  But so worth it in the end.

Collecting Mickey Mouse Shirts

I've been collecting Mickey shirts for a while now.  Today I took the plunge and cut them.  This Modern version of a Muumuu has four T-shirts incorporated into one big one.

Carefully hand stitched all the pieces together.  I love how it turned out.  I wore it to the swimming pool as a cover up.  It rocked!!

The Journey continues on............

Doing a lot of hand sewing on this little lady!  Yesterday I started the forest. Not sure quite how to begin?!?  But then it just happened.

I love how where this is going!  Trees are made from a recycled T-shirt, as is the little mushroom. I think its time to give her shoes and hair and then maybe a few more forest things.

Boro stitched Pouch

It took a while, but I finished my Boro stitched bag.  It was a lot of hard work pushing the needle thru the layers of denim.  I really enjoyed the process.  I will try it again with lighter weight fabrics.  I can't wait to use it and show it off.

Upcycled Bedsheet into PJ's

Well sometimes I have to just do something different.  So today I took half of an old Smurf Bedsheet and turned in to a pair of PJ's.  So now I have a new pair of PJ's and the bed sheet got new life.  They feel great!  So I stay busy on these hot summer days!

Deconstructed and Upcycled

They say curiosity got the cat, but sometimes it gets me too.  I want to know how stuff is put together.  So I  bought this thrifted bag a while back.  It was too big for my taste after I got it home.  So I saved it, thought I would use the hardware off of it.

OK, long story short I did that.  Now since I have this crazy love for Denim it felt only fitting to make a new make.  I made it smaller and added my own little twist.
Lining is from an old pair of work pants.

Voila!

Upcycled an old canvas

Bought this huge old painting at a garage sale.  I wanted a canvas that I could repurpose.   Should have been an easy thing to do. Well, this canvas had a lot of texture on it, that I could not get off.  So I took out all one thousand staples and flipped it over and re stapled it and painted it with some left over house hold paint.  Painted it .........wasn't happy with it and just kept painting.  Waited a few days before touched it again and Voila. It is now the new addition in the guest bedroom.

I'm still here

My apologies for not posting in such a long time!  We've had a perfect spring here in Southern California and it's really hard to be inside.  Here are a few things I have made since my last post.

So, I did a small mixed media collage that I gifted.

Making all sorts of upcycled Denim bags.  This one is made from a pair of overalls, and barkcloth.  The leather handles are from a old leather coat.  And since there were no holes I made some holes and then patched them.

I got a little side tracked with doing some Sun printing.  I took a piece of muslin and some watered down acrylic paint.  Painted my muslin and then laid a variety of flowers on top and the sun did the rest.

Then I ripped off a small section and did some FME.

And I have been very addicted to upcycling denim lately, so I used the decorated piece in my new upcycled denim bag.

Lastley, here is a new trolls all sewn up and waiting to be stuffed.  This little troll will be the rider for the Field Mouse.  And I'm hoping to get working on it in the next few days.

More soon!
